He graduated from the University of San Diego. He was good at sports and was also a part of his school soccer team.

He started his career as a Navy SEAL. After he got recruit training and Radioman, he reported to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training. He graduated from BUD/S class 177.
He has served 8 years on the duty as a Navy SEAL with SEAL 1 and SEAL 2. He has also seized the Russian Tank Volga-Neft 147, which was carrying Iraqi oil.
He was commanding TEAM SEAL THREE, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was deployed to Ramadi city in Iraq with his team.
He has retired from Navy SEAL after 20 years of service.
After his retirement, he co-founded a leadership consultancy firm called Echelon Front, with his fellow mate Leif Babin.
Later he and Babin co-authored the book “Extreme Ownership: How the US Navy SEAL Lead & WIN”.
