Early Life

Robert Cialdini’s real name is Robert Beno Cialdini. He was born on April 27, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. 

In June 1967, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Then he attended the University of North Carolina and earned a Ph.D. in Social Psychology, in June 1970.

In 1971, he received his Postdoctoral training from Columbia University. He also holds honorary doctoral degrees from other universities such as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Wroclaw, Poland, Georgetown University, and the University of Basil in Switzerland. 

He also holds visiting scholar appointments at the University of Carolina, Ohio State University, the Graduate School of Business of Stanford University, and the Annenberg School of Communications.

Career 

He began his career as an assistant professor in, department of psychology at Arizona State University, in 1971. He has been a visiting professor at several universities and colleges.

Currently, he is the Regents’ Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Marketing, Department of Psychology at Arizona State University.

In 1984, he released his first book on persuasion and marketing called “Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion”. He went through a three-year undercover training at a fund-raising organization, telemarketing and used car dealership, to watch and observe the real-life situation of persuasion. 

This book has sold more than three million copies worldwide and was published in 30 languages. It got listed in the New York Times Best Seller list and was listed as “75 smartest business books” by Fortune. 

He has authored several books including, Pre-Suasion, The Small Big: Small Changes That Spark a Big Influence, and Yes! 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to be Persuasive.

He is the founder and CEO of Influence at Work. Some of his major clients are Microsoft, Google, Cisco System, Coca-Cola, KPMG, Ericsson, Nationwide Insurance, Harvard University, the United States Department of Justice, Ogily, London School of Economics, and many more…
