Sam Hauser’s real name is Samuel David Hauser. He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Stephanie and Dave Hauser. His father was an assistant basketball coach for a local team.
He attended Stevens Point Area Senior High School where, in addition to basketball, he played golf as well as football for the high school team.
During his junior and senior years, Hauser won the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1 state championship consecutively.

Hauser enrolled at Marquette University and started playing for the Golden Eagles basketball team. As a freshman, he averaged 8.8 points and 5 rebounds per game.
In his sophomore year, his performance substantially improved as he scored 30 points a couple of times and averaged 14.1 points and 5.7 rebounds.
In a 74-69 win over Wisconsin as a junior, he surpassed his previous season-high and career-high with 14 rebounds, 13 points, and four assists. He averaged 14.9 points per game and was later named Second Team All-Big East.
The following year, on May 28, 2019, Hauser transferred to the University of Virginia and sat out the 2019 season as per NCAA transfer rules.
In his debut at Virginia Cavaliers on November 25, 2020, he averaged 16 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He declared for the 2021 NBA draft after his graduation.

Hauser remained undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft. Later in the year, he signed a two-way deal with the Boston Celtics on August 13, 2021. He also joined the team’s G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.
