He was the son of Albert Briggs Tucker, a Texas historian, and Roberta Janeice (Robertson) Tucker.
As an undergraduate, he studied economics at Texas Tech University and Howard Payne University, where he first encountered Austrian School literature.
He later enrolled at George Mason University as a graduate student in economics.
