How Was Janet Evanovich’s Early Life And Education?

Janet Evanovich was born on April 22, 1943, in South River, New Jersey, America.

Her father worked as a machinist, and her mother was a housewife. Their names are not known.

She went to South River High School for her high school studies.

Then, to complete her graduation in arts, she attended Douglass College of Rutgers University.

How Did Janet Evanovich Start His Career?

During her college days, Evanovich married Pete Evanovich, a doctoral candidate at Rutgers University.

She continued to work on her paintings and looked for jobs like a waitress, selling cars, and insurance claim adjuster, during her first year of college.

She never really enjoyed making paintings, so she started writing on a daily basis. At that time, she was the mother of two young children and used to stay at home with them.

At night, she wrote some of her stories on the typewriter in her husband’s home office and sent them to several editors. But all she got was rejection letters.

To learn the art of writing dialog, she went to Improv Acting. For the first 10 years, she tried writing the “Great American Novel.” She finished three manuscripts but was unable to sell them.

As per someone’s suggestion, Evanovich tried writing romance novels. She read several romances and discovered that she enjoyed the genre. She wrote and submitted two romances for publishing.

Then, she found a job as a secretary. After four months, she received a call from an editor at Second Chance at Love Books who said that he wanted to buy a manuscript she had sent him.

With the $2,000 advance she received from that book, she quit her job and started writing full-time.

In 1987, her novel “Hero at Large” was published under the pen name Steffie Hall in the Second Chance at Love category.

In 1988, Evanovich began writing for Bantam Loveswept under her own name.

Then, for the next five years, she continued to write category romances for Loveswept. Her work within the romance genre helped her gain wide recognition.

After finishing her 12th romance, she realized that she was more interested in writing action scenes. But her editors denied it. So, she took the time (the next 18 months) to plan for what she actually wanted to write.

She wanted to write romantic adventure novels. So, in 1994, her romantic adventure novel “One For The Money” was published with good reviews.

The novel was named the New York Times notable book, Publishers Weekly’s Best Book of 1994, and USA Today’s Best Bet.

Evanovich sold the movie rights of the novel to Columbia Tristar for $1 million. Lion Gate Entertainment released it on January 27, 2012.

In 2016, she released her first mystery novel series titled “Curious Minds,” which was co-authored with Phoef Sutton. The second book in the series was written in June 2017 and was named “Dangerous Minds.”

Her latest novel under the series “Stephanie Plum,” named “Going Rogue: Rise and Shine Twenty-Nine,” was released on November 1, 2022.
