Deepak Chopra’s birthdate is October 22, 1946.
His birthplace is New Delhi, India. His father, Krishan Chopra, was a cardiologist. His mother’s name is Pushpa Chopra.
He has a brother named Sanjiv Chopra, who is a professor at Harvard Medical School.
Chopra completed high school at St. Columba’s School in New Delhi.
In 1969, he went to the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences for his graduation.
How Did Deepak Chopra Start His Career?
After graduating, Chopra started his career as a doctor and worked for six months in rural areas of India.
After getting married in 1970, he went to the United States. Since the Indian government had banned its doctors from sitting for the exam, which was needed to practice in the United States, he went to Sri Lanka to take it.
After passing the exam, he returned to the United States and took up a clinical internship at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, New Jersey where doctors from overseas were being recruited at that time.
Between 1971 and 1977, Chopra completed residencies in internal medicine at Lahey Clinic, Burlington, and several other medical centers.
After that, he earned his license and started practicing medicine in Massachusetts in 1973.
He also taught at the medical schools of Tufts University, Boston University, and Harvard University and became the Chief of Staff at the New England Memorial Hospital.
In 1981, he visited India and met the ayurvedic physician Brihaspati Dev Triguna and started practicing and investigating Ayurveda.
In 1985, in a meeting with the leader of the TM movement, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi asked him to establish an Ayurvedic health center.
So, he left NEMH and became the founding president of the American Association of Ayurvedic Medicine.
He is one of the founders of Maharishi Ayur-Veda Products International and the medical director of the Maharishi Ayur-Veda Health Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts.
In 1989, Maharishi awarded him with the title Dhanvantari of Heaven and Earth.
The same year, his first book, “Quantum Healing: Exploring the Frontiers of Mind” was published.
In 1990, he published another book titled “Perfect Health: The Complete Mind.”
In January 1993, he left the TM movement because it became too stressful for him to work with them due to their false claims about him.
