Eckhart’s real name is Ulrich Leonard Tölle. He was born in Lünen, a small village in Dortmund in Ruhr Valley, German, on February 16, 1948.
Tolle‘s childhood was miserable. At a very early age, his parents got separated and he lived in a very painful and alienated manner.
The grown-up with fear and anxiety has after the post war he used to play in the bombarded building.
At the age of 13, he went to Spain to live with his father. His father did not insist him to go to study high school. He decided to study literature, astronomy, and many other languages at home.
He has read many books at the age of 15. He responded very deeply with those books. Few among them were written by German Mystic and Joseph Anton Schneierfranken.
He moved to London at the age of 19 and taught german and Spanish for three years at the London school of language. As he was having trouble with fear and anxiety. He started searching for an answer in his life.
He then decided to pursue literature, philosophy, and psychology by enrolling at the University of London. He then joined for post-graduation after graduating. But later he dropped out.
At the age of 29, he first felt his inner transformation. After a long period of depression one night, he awakens in the middle of sleep suffering from unbearable depression. But that was an enlightening experience, a life-changing situation.
He had a dream that in one of his piles of bookshelf he has a book with the name Eckhart that he has written and one day a random friend called him Eckhart. That is why he changed his name from Ulrich to Eckhart.
How Did Eckhart Tolle Start His Career?
After this inner transformation period. He began to work as a counselor and spiritual teacher. For the next five years, students continued to visit him. Later he moved and settled in Vancouver, British Columbia. And that was the time where he encountered his future wife, Kim Eng.
Tolle Published his first book in the year 1997 and printed 3000 copies which were distributed in the local bookstores in Vancouver. Later it was published in 1999 by New World Library publication.
