He started playing basketball professionally at the age of 15 when he joined Zrinjevac, a club based out of Zagreb, Croatia that competes in the Croatian League.

How Does Dario Saric Professional Career begin?

His professional career started in 2009 with Zrinjevac when he joined the club mid-season. He later won the Citta di Roma in the EuroLeague International Junior Tournament, where his team won.

Dario played for the Croatia U16 national team in the 2010 Championship. He was the MVP of the tournament after his triple-double of 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. He was nominated for the FIBA Europe Young Player of the Year Award in 2010-11.

He was chosen to play for the World Team in 2012 at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon, US, where his team beat the US Team. Šarić represented Croatia in the 2013 EuroBasket and the 2014 FIBA World Cup. He played for the national team until 2017.

In November 2012, he signed a 4-year contract with another Croatian club called Cibona Zagreb and was nominated for the FIBA Europe Young Men’s Player of the Year Award for the second time.

In 2014, Dario was bought out of Cibona by Turkish club Anadolu Efes, who signed him under a 2+1 year contract. He was picked in the 2014 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic but was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. 

Dario signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016 after the expiration of his contract with Efes. His performance in the NBA was great from the start. 

In November 2018, Dario was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he had a decent performance and played for a year. Šarić was then traded to the Phoenix Suns in July of 2019.

He played in the 2020 NBA Bubble, where he was a starter and the Suns ended their season with an 8-0 record. Owing to his success, he was signed to a 3-year extension with the Phoenix Suns in November 2020. 

Three months later, he caught COVID after playing against the Washington Wizards. Šarić went inactive for about a month due to the virus and missed 13 games during that time. He returned with a match against the 76ers.

In the first game of the 2021 NBA Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks, Dario suffered a major ligament tear in his right knee and was benched indefinitely. The Suns lost the series in six games. He missed the entire 2021–22 NBA season after he went through meniscus surgery on May 5, 2022.
