Monty Williams’ real name is Tavares Montgomery Williams. He was born to Joyce and Tacares Williams in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Williams attended high school at Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland. He played as a forward throughout his high school, college, as well as a professional career.
Playing Career
Williams went to the University of Notre Dame, where he played on the basketball team as a small forward. He was picked in the 1st round as the 24th overall pick by the New York Knicks in the 1994 NBA draft. He played professionally from 1994 to 2003 despite his heart condition.
He played for the New York Knicks until 1996 and was then traded to the San Antonio Spurs. He had a brief stint with the Denver Nuggets but was transferred to the Orlando Magic, where he played until 2002.
