Ben Horowitz’s real name is Benjamin Abraham Horowitz. He took birth on June 13, 1966, in London, England. But he was raised in Berkeley, California. His father David Horowitz is a conservative writer and policy advocate and his mother is Elissa Krauthamer.

He attended Columbia University in 1988 and earned a BA in Computer Science. Later he completed MS in computer science from UCLA in 1990.

Ben Horowitz started his career as an engineer at Silicon Graphics in 1990. He joined Marc Andreessen at Netscape as a product manager in 1995. He worked as a security product line at Netscape from 1987 to 1988. In 1998 the company was acquired by AOL and he worked as Vice President for the eCommerce division.
In 1999 he co-founded Loudcloud along with Marc Andreessen, In Sik Rhee, and Tim Howes. Their customers were companies such as Nike, Ford, INC., News Corporation, the United States Army, and many more.
In June 2002, he transformed the company into Opsware, an enterprise software company. He sold Loudcloud core management service for $63.5 million cash to Electronic Data System.
Horowitz took Opsware over $100 million annual revenue, with 550 employees. In July 2007, he sold his company to HP for $1.6 billion in cash.
He was the president and CEO of Loudcloud and Opsware for the entire history of the company. After selling Opsware to HP, he worked as Vice President and General Manager in HP Software. He took the company to $2.8 billion annual revenue and 3000 employees.
On July 6, 2009, he co-founded Andreessen Horowitz along with Marc Andreessen. It is a Venture capital firm. They started the company to invest in and advise both early-stage start-ups and established companies in high technology.
They began with a capital of $300 million and in three years they have reached $2.7 billion under management across three funds.
