Amor Towles was born in 1964, in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. He grew up in Boston and went to the local school for his studies. He graduated from Yale University. And later received an M.A in English from Stanford University.
When he was 10 years old, he threw a bottle in the Atlantic ocean with a message. After a few years, he received a letter from the managing editor of the New York Times “Harrison Salisbury,”. Afterward, they corresponded for many years.
After graduating from Yale University, he started his career by teaching in China on a Two-year fellowship from the Yale-China Association. Later his fellowship was canceled due to the Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989.
Then he joined Select Equity Group in New York, and worked there From 1991–2012, as an investment banker and director of research.
When he was younger man, his inspirations for writing came from,a renowned nature writer, novelist, and founder of The Paris Reviews named Peter Matthiessen,
Towles’ first novel “Rules of Civility” brought him a huge success. Which led him to focus full-time on his writing career. He published his second novel “A Gentleman in Moscow” in 2013. It became a finalist for the Kirkus Prize for Fiction in 2016.
On October 5, 2021, he published his third novel, The Lincoln Highway. He has also written an essay titled “Channel a More Romantic Era of Transatlantic Travel”.
Amor Towles is married to Maggie. They have a son Stokley, and a daughter Esmé. They live in a Victorian-era townhouse near Gramercy Park in Manhattan, New York City.
