Tim Cappello was born on 03 May 1955 in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Harrison, New york. He is the youngest amongst his three siblings. His father was a local conductor and a music teacher. They belong to a Sicilian family.

Tim started to take music lessons at the age of 4. He dropped out of high school at the age of 15 and he was accepted at the New England Conservatory of Music. He auditioned for both drums and keyboards.

Tim later pursued his studies under the tutelage of the jazz musician, Lennie Tristano about the saxophone. He was also a musical performer in “The Lost Boys” in 1987.

He used to play with the artists like Billy Crystal, Peter Gabriel, Garland Jeffreys, Ringo Starr, and more.

Tim Cappello studied intermittently for four years with Lennie Tristano. And Toured with the performers like Eric Carmen and the comedian Billy Crystal, He played saxophone for Peter Gabriel in his album Peter Gabriel 2 in 1978 and also went with him on his tour. In 1978, Cappello joined Garland Jeffreys as a musician and used to play saxophone and keyboard.

From 1981 to 1982 Cappello worked in his pop band in New York City named ”The Ken Dolls” including the drummer J.P. Thunderbolt Patterson and Joe Carroll who was a Composer/producer founder of the Manhattan Producer’s Alliance (ManHatPro).

Cappello was well known for playing the g-string. In 1984, He was hired by Tina Turner as her Keyboardist and Saxophonist. His work can be heard in the tracks by Turner like “We Don’t Need Another Hero” and “One of the Living ” from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome 

(1985).

Cappello performed on “What’s Love Got to Do with It” playing his saxophone and singing like Turner’s vocal parts. He also played saxophone on a Netflix variety show “The Break with Michelle Wolf” during a segment named ”Saxophone Apologies” 

He was the frontman of the band “The Ken Dolls” and was a composer for the 1987 film “Radium City”. He was portrayed by Jon Hamm on the show  “Saturday Night Live” in 2010 and a video of someone portraying him in shirtless, long-haired and is named Sergio Flores doing both characters of Cappello and Jon in the show’s parody segment which was ranked the video #3 on their list of the 10 best viral videos of 2011 by a Magazine.

In 2018, he was featured on GUNSHIP‘s single “Dark All Day“, along with singer Indiana. The same year he released his first solo album “Blood on the Reed”. Also had plans for a tour so that he could promote his album in the early 2019s.

In 2021, he was featured in “Worn Stories”, a Netflix series.
