As a child, Sebbens aspired to be a paleontologist or an astronaut. But, at the age of thirteen, she was inspired to pursue acting after seeing the indigenous actress (and her future “The Sapphires” co-star) Deborah Mailman in the film “Radiance” (1998).
Sebbens graduated from Darwin High School in 2001 and, after two and a half years at Nhulunbuy, was chosen to participate in “SPARK,” a theater membership program, at nineteen.
She was accepted to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) at the age of twenty, where she completed a one-year course in Aboriginal Theatre.
Sebbens graduated from WAAPA in 2009 after auditioning for a place at NIDA in Sydney, where she studied acting full-time for three years.
