Tjay, a rap musician with over 7 million Instagram followers and over 17 million monthly Spotify listeners, was injured during an armed robbery in Edgewater.
According to officials, the rapper Lil Tjay was shot numerous times and another man was also wounded during an attempted armed robbery that took place early on Wednesday in New Jersey.
Gunfire reportedly broke out at a Chipotle restaurant in a residential and outdoor shopping center in Edgewater, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, that is in charge of the investigation.
According to a public statement from the district attorney’s office, Lil Tjay, 21, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, was found with multiple gunshot wounds by the Edgewater Police Department after they responded to a 911 call about the shooting at 12:08 a.m.
The other victim, Antoine Boyd, 22, was found with a single gunshot wound at an Exxon gas station about a mile from the Chipotle, according to officials.
According to officials, Lil TJay, a 21-year-old rapper, and the others he was with, Antoine Boyd and Jeffrey Valdez, were the targets of a robbery attempt by Konate.
Antoine and Jeffrey were discovered to have each had an illegal weapon at the time of the attempted robbery.
On the same day, Konate was taken into custody by detectives from the New York Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Konate’s extradition to New Jersey is now pending, according to the officials.
He was charged by the police with three counts of attempted murder, three acts of armed robbery, and one other weapon charge.
Antoine and Jeffrey were also accused of illegally possessing a weapon.
