The rumors appear to have originated from a tweet that made additional claims that were not corroborated by any official source.

Just after midnight on June 22, 2022, Lil Tjay was shot at a shopping center and taken to the hospital.

Tione Jayden Merritt, the rapper’s real name, underwent emergency surgery as a result of the attack and is reportedly recovering well.

On June 23, 2022, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office tweeted: 

“Update on #BCPONJ & @EdgewaterPolice inv. of 6/22 shooting: alleged shooter arrested & charged with attempted murder, armed robbery & weapons charges. 2 others were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. 1 victim released from hospital; other in critical but stable condition.”

In connection with the incident, Konate was charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, and crimes involving weapons.

Along with Konate, Jeffrey Valdez and Antoine Boyd, who were with Tjay at the time of the incident, have been charged and arrested with the second-degree unauthorized carrying of a weapon.
