Early Life

Tim Harford’s real name is Timothy Douglas Harford. He was born on 27 September 1973, in England, United Kingdom. 

He went to Aylesbury Grammar School for his studies and then attended Brasenose College, Oxford. And graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy, politics, and economics.

And in 1998, he joined for a Master of Philosophy in economics, from the same college.

Career 

He began his career as a fellowship in 2003, under business columnist Peter Martin at Financial Times. After 1 year of training, he joined the International Finance Corporation and continued writing his financial column.

In 2006, he rejoined the Financial Times as economics lead writer. And also a member of the Newspaper editorial board.

In 2007, he presented a Television series “Trust Me, I’m an Economist” on BBC. The same year in October, he appeared on BBC Radio 4 series “More or Less” replacing Andrew Dilnot.

In 2016, he began presenting an economic history documentary radio and podcast series “50 Things That Made The Modern Economy”. In November 2019, he started presenting a podcast series “Cautionary Tales”.

In 2020, during the pandemic time, he began a new podcast series “How to Vaccinate the World”.

Harford is a visiting fellow at Nuffield College, one of the colleges of the University of Oxford. He is also a fellow at the Royal Statistical Society.

He has spoken at various platforms such as TED, the Sydney Opera House, and PopTech

Tim Harford is the author of the book “The Undercover Economist”, his first book. Which has sold more than 1.5 million copies and published in 30 languages worldwide.
