Scott Stapp’s real name is Anthony Scott Flippen. He was born in Orlando, Florida, to Lynda. His mother and stepfather, Steven Stapp, raised him, and he took his stepfather’s surname.

He went to Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, where he met his future bandmate, Mark Tremonti.

They would later reunite while both were students at Florida State University. They built a strong friendship based on their mutual passion for music and went on to team up musically.

How Did Scott Stapp Start His Career?

Creed” was formed in 1994 by Scott Stapp and Tremonti, along with Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips. Stapp was the band’s lead vocalist, with Tremonti on guitar (and also contributing vocals), Marshall on bass, and Phillips on drums.

Creed’s debut album, “My Own Prison” (1997), was a commercial success, selling over six million copies. They followed it up in 1999 with the equally successful album “Human Clay,” which was certified diamond by the RIAA and eleven times platinum.

Their third album, “Weathered” (2001), was another multi-platinum seller. Creed went on a national tour to promote their third album, but a contentious concert in Chicago at the end of the tour sparked tensions between band members, leading to their breakup in 2004.

Creed announced their reunion in 2009, and their fourth album, “Full Circle,” was released in October of that year. They performed songs from their first two albums on their “2 Nights” tour.

In 2005, he released his debut solo album, “The Great Divide.” It peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard 200 chart and featured the singles “Justify” and “Surround Me.” The RIAA certified it double platinum.

His second solo album, “Proof of Life,” was released in 2013, and “The Space Between the Shadows,” his third album, was released in 2019.

Other projects he has worked on include a cover of “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival on Carlos Santana’s album “Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time” (2010);

After Scott Weiland died in December 2015, it was announced in May 2016 that Stapp would take over as the new lead singer of the band Art of Anarchy.

His first single with the band was “The Madness,” released in August 2016, followed by an album of the same name in March 2017. However, Stapp was reportedly sued by the band in February 2018 for breach of contract and refusing to promote “The Madness” on tour.
