His father, Al Burleson, was a defensive back with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League at the time (CFL). His mother’s name is Valerie Lynn Burleson.
He was born into an affluent and close-knit sporting family. Alvin Jr, his older brother, was a collegiate football player for the University of Washington Huskies and the Western Illinois University Leathernecks.
Kevin, another older brother, played professional basketball for the Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He signed a new seven-year, $49 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks in 2006.
In 2008, however, he tore a ligament in his knee, thereby ending his season.
During his time with the Seahawks, Burleson had the most punt yards of any franchise player, a record that is yet to be broken. He also holds the franchise record for most punt return yards in a career.
He signed with the Detroit Lions during the early hours of the NFL free agency period on March 5, 2010. The five-year contract was valued at $25 million.
