Michael Blackson’s real name is Jafari Ferguson. He was born on November 28, 1972, in Tamale, Ghana. He grew up in Ghana and at the age of 15, moved to America with his parents.
His mother served in a school and his father worked at a theater company. Blackson was passionate about comedy and acting from the early age of his life.
After moving to the United state, in 1992 he began performing in the local comedy clubs in Philadelphia known as “Comedy Workers”. He started getting attention for his unique Ghana accent of presenting comedy.
Blackson says his major inspiration was Eddie Murphy and his comedy styling.
Career
He started his career by performing in the local comedy club “Comedy Workers” in 1992. During that time he participated in several comedy festivals.
Blackson performed in several comedy festivals like Schlitz Malt Liquor Comedy Tour, Urban Comedy Festival, and Comedy Central Tour. But he didn’t get any breakthrough with his participation. But he got the attention from there.
His comic appeal grew when he got involved with HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, BET’s ComicView series, Live in Hollywood, and Showtime at Harlem.
But he got his big breakthrough from the Los Angeles Comedy Club.
He was discovered by the actor/director Ice Cube. While performing at the Comedy Store. Which turns out to be his life-changing movement.
