His parents are professor Kate Claire Crowley, who teaches at the University of Southern California, and Peter L. Wittrock, who’s an actor, he also has a younger brother named Dylan.

He attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where he learned to act and acted in many plays. 

He was accepted into the Juilliard School but turned them down at first and decided to join the following year. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2008.
