Dubai, UAE – The Boring Company, founded by Elon Musk, has announced a new partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to construct an underground tunnel network spanning over 10 miles. This ambitious project aims to revolutionize urban mobility by reducing traffic congestion and introducing a new high-speed, electric-powered transit system.

The project will feature Loop technology, a transportation system designed to carry passengers using autonomous electric vehicles (AEVs) through underground tunnels. Unlike traditional subways, these systems promise minimal wait times and high-frequency transport, significantly improving commuting efficiency.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Boring Company and Dubai’s RTA, marking the first step in making this vision a reality. The proposal includes multiple underground routes that will connect key business districts, commercial hubs, and residential areas, helping commuters reach their destinations faster.

“Dubai is known for embracing cutting-edge technology in urban development, and this partnership underscores the city’s commitment to pioneering innovative transport solutions,” an RTA spokesperson said.

The Loop system is expected to integrate with Dubai’s existing public transport network, allowing seamless connections with metro stations and other mobility hubs. The Boring Company has previously built tunnel projects in Las Vegas, where the LVCC Loop successfully transports passengers across the city’s convention center.

Experts believe the project could significantly reduce road congestion and provide an efficient alternative to traditional road-based transport. However, regulatory approvals and feasibility studies will play a crucial role in determining the timeline of construction, which could begin as early as late 2025.

Musk’s Boring Company, which has faced criticism over delays and feasibility concerns in past projects, remains optimistic about its expansion into Dubai. With the UAE’s rapid advancements in smart city technology and infrastructure, this tunnel system could serve as a model for future urban transport projects worldwide.

More details, including official blueprints and a project timeline, are expected to be released in the coming months as discussions progress between Dubai’s authorities and the Boring Company.
