His father’s name is Efrayim, and his mother’s name is Rachel. His parents were Jews who migrated to France in the 1920s.

Kahneman spent his childhood in Paris. But after the death of his father in 1944, his family moved to British Mandatory Palestine.

In 1954, he completed his graduation from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Mathematics. 

He then worked for the Department of Psychology in the Israeli Defense Forces.

In 1958, he went to the United States and completed his Ph.D. in psychology at the University of California.

After completing his graduation, Kahneman started his career as a lecturer in psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1961.

In 1966, he was made a senior lecturer. From 1965-1966, he was also a visiting scientist at the University of Michigan.

His work has been published in journals, and the first among them is a journal named Science in which he has written: “Pupil Diameter and Load on Memory.”

In 1967, he worked as a lecturer at Harvard University.

In 1979, Kahneman and Amos Tversky published a series of seminal articles related to prospect theory. From 1971-1979, they published about seven articles.

In 1978, he left Hebrew University and went to the University of British Columbia.

After this, they both worked with Paul Slovic and edited a compilation named “Judgement Under Uncertainty: Heuristics and Biases” in 1982.

In 2002, Kahneman was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics for the prospect theory.

In 2021, he, along with his co-authors Olivier Sibony and Cass Sunstein, wrote “Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgement,” which is a fieldwork on unwanted variability in human judgments of the same problem.
