Dalvin Cook’s real name is Dalvin James Cook. He was born in Florida on August 10, 1995. His brother is basketball player Deandre Burnett. His father is James Cook, and his mother is Varondria Burnett

Cook attended Miami Central High School. While in high school, he played running back and defensive back for coach Telly Lockette.

He was a running back in his junior season. He rushed for a county championship-winning 1,940 yards and 34 touchdowns on 177 carries in 2013. He also intercepted three passes. 

In the first quarter of the game, Dalvin Cook rushed for 244 yards and three touchdowns, as Yearby fractured his fibula. 


He began his career at Florida State University on January 1, 2014. While attending Florida State University from 2014 to 2016, he played college football. In his first game, he gained 67 yards on the ground and scored one touchdown.

In 2014, he also gained 177 yards on 31 carries and scored a rushing touchdown against Georgia Tech to win the ACC Championship Game MVP award.

After being charged with the battery outside a bar in July 2015, he was suspended from the department. The 2016 season started with him rushing for 91 yards and receiving for 101 yards in a win over Ole Miss.

He declared that he would skip his senior year at Florida State to pursue the 2017 NFL Draft. 

The second-best running back by NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks, and second-best running back by NFLDraftScout.com and NFL analyst Mike Mayock ranked him as the third-best running back at Florida State’s Pro Day, where he ran the 40-yard dash, 20-yard dash, 10-yard dash, and positional drills.

In the 2017 NFL Draft, he was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round. Lastly in the draft, he was selected behind Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey.

The New Orleans Saints were his first-team opponents. He rushed 27 times for 97 yards and a touchdown in Week 3, as well as catching five passes for 72 yards.

A few weeks later, Cook left a game with an apparent knee injury; the next day, he was diagnosed with a torn ACL, which ended his rookie season prematurely. The left ACL of his left leg was successfully repaired on October 9, 2017. 

Despite losing 34-33 to the Arizona Cardinals, Cook totaled 131 rushing yards on 22 carries. The Vikings won 28–36 over the Pittsburgh Steelers following Cook’s 205 rushing yards on 27 carries just 11 days after dislocating his shoulder.

The NFL announced Cook would be wearing the number 4 jersey in 2022 after the 2021 season concluded.
