Billie Joe Armstrong was born in Oakland California, USA, on February 17, 1972. To Ollie Jackson and Andrew Marciano Armstrong. He is the youngest among the six siblings, three older sisters, and an older brother.
His father was a truck driver for Safeway and a musician, who died of esophageal cancer in 1982. He was 10 years old at that time. And his mother was a waitress at Rod’s Hickory Pit in California.
He has released the song “Wake Me Up When September Ends” in memory of his father.
He grew up in Rodeo, California, where he went to Hillcrest Elementary School. At the age of 10. He met his friend Mike Dirnt at the school cafeteria. Their love for music ended up in a great friendship.
He also attended John Swett High School and Carquinez Middle School. And later he was transferred to Pinole Valley High School in Pinole, California. Later he dropped out to pursue his musical career.
He began his musical journey at the age of 15, in 1987. By forming a band called “Sweet Children” with his childhood friend Mike Dirnt. They both were active in playing guitar and Raj Panjabi on drums.
In 1989, they changed the band name to “Green Day” and that is how the journey started. The same year they signed a deal with Lookout! Records and released Green Day’s first EP “1,000 Hours”.
Then they released their first studio album 39/smooth in 1990. Along with the EP Slappy. In 1991, Cool made a debut entry in Green Day’s second album “Kerplunk”
In 1991, Armstrong joined the plunk band “Pinhead Gunpowder”, consisting of drummer Aaron Cometbus, bassist Bill Schneider, and vocalist/guitarist Sarah Kirsch.
In 1993, he played several times with the California band Rancid. And he co-wrote the song Radio for the band Rancid.
In 1994, they came up with their third LP “Dookie”. During this time they got huge success in the mainstream and became one of the most famous rock bands of the 1990s and 2000s. And sold 60 million records worldwide.

In 2009, they released their 2nd rock opera “21st Century Breakdown”. Which became a commercial hit.
